BEST, Board of European Students of Technology, was founded in March 1989 in Berlin as an answer to the need for an association to promote communication and exchange between students of technology throughout Europe. It's a non-political student organization whose official language is English. Almost 50 local BEST Groups are all over Europe, which make up an established network of associations within high ranking universities in 20 European countries. BEST strives to help European students of technology to become more internationally minded by reaching a better understanding of European cultures and developing capacities to work on an international basis. This can only be fulfilled by giving students of technology all over Europe the opportunity to meet and learn from each other.
To achieve this, BEST organizes a variety of academic events such as summer courses, short intensive training, language courses, spring courses, career fairs and other events such as cultural exchanges, all throughout Europe. During the year BEST also helps students to attend courses, career fairs, forums, student festivals and to participate in student exchanges that are organized by other student organizations. BEST also provides students with information regarding studying abroad, and improves international exchange opportunities by close co-operation with University administrations, industry and official institutions.
Local USURT LBG was founded in April, 1998. The group is now a full member of BEST. The motto of the Group is "To do best for BEST". Several cultural exchanges were organised by the USURT LBG with Liege LBG, Belgium, Stockholm LBG, KTH Sweden. 20 students from all over Europe came for the Intensive Russian Language Course. During a two-week period they worked hard to master the Russian language and get acquainted with Russian traditions, customs and life in Russia.
